Enabling Two-Factor Authentication

How to enable two-factor authentication on your NameBright account using an authenticator app, and what to do if you lose access to your 2FA device.

Why 2FA matters

A stolen password is enough to lose your entire domain portfolio. Two-factor authentication (2FA) requires a time-based code from your phone in addition to your password. Even if your password is compromised, an attacker cannot log in without physical access to your device.

Supported authentication methods

Method Security level Notes
Authenticator app (TOTP) High Recommended. Works offline. Compatible with Google Authenticator, Authy, 1Password, etc.
SMS / text message Medium Convenient but vulnerable to SIM swap attacks. Use only as a backup.

Setting up an authenticator app

  1. Download an authenticator app on your phone (Google Authenticator, Authy, or similar).

  2. Log in to NameBright and go to Account Settings → Security .

  3. Click Enable 2FA .

  4. Scan the QR code shown on screen with your authenticator app.

  5. Enter the 6-digit code your app generates to confirm the setup.

  6. Save the recovery codes NameBright displays. Store them somewhere safe — you'll need them if you lose your phone.

What to do if you lose your phone

Use one of the recovery codes NameBright provided when you set up 2FA. Each code works once. After using a recovery code, go to Security and set up 2FA again with your new device.

If you've lost both your phone and your recovery codes, contact NameBright support to begin the identity verification process.
