How domain transfers work
A domain transfer moves the registrar of record from one company to another. NameBright acts as the receiving registrar. The process is governed by ICANN policy and takes a minimum of five days.
The five-day window
During the five-day window, the transfer can be cancelled by either registrar or the registrant. If nothing happens, the transfer completes automatically.
Prerequisites
Before initiating a transfer, confirm the following:
Requirement
Details
60-day lock period
Domain must have been registered or previously transferred at least 60 days ago
Domain status
Must not be in a prohibited status (clientTransferProhibited, redemptionPeriod, pendingDelete)
Auth code
Current registrar must provide the EPP/auth code within five business days of request
WHOIS email access
Transfer confirmation emails go to the registrant email on record — make sure you can receive them
Step 1: Prepare the domain at the current registrar
1
Log in to your current registrar's control panel.
2
Disable Registrar Lock (also called domain lock or transfer lock).
3
Request the EPP auth code (also called authorization code or transfer code).
4
Note the registrant email on record — that's where NameBright's confirmation will arrive.

What happens next
After approval, the transfer enters the five-day window. You can watch its status in My Domains → Pending Transfers . The domain will appear in your account and fully function once the transfer completes.

Troubleshooting
Transfer rejected with "auth code invalid"
The auth code may have expired or been generated before the domain was unlocked. Go back to your current registrar, generate a fresh auth code, and retry.
Transfer stuck for more than seven days
Contact your losing registrar. Transfers that sit pending beyond seven days usually mean the losing registrar failed to respond to the request. ICANN requires them to respond within five business days.
Domain shows "clientTransferProhibited"
This status must be removed by the current registrar before any transfer can proceed. Contact their support team.
